Concerns were alleviated for residents in East Haven near Carnoustie after a suspected unexploded shell near to their homes was proved to be empty. Found by a local volunteer, the shell was reported to the Coastguard who alerted an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Police put in place a 100m security cordon and there were fears that an evacuation would be necessary. Luckily the shell was declared empty and the EOD team removed it for disposal.
