The doorstop of a family in Teignmouth, Devon was proven after thirty years to be a live shell. One of the family members called the Police after having concerns about the item and a Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was quickly mobilised.

The EOD team identified the shell as being hazardous and removed it to Ness Beach where a controlled explosion was carried out.

The shell was identified as MK2 British 12LB Shrapnel round and is believed to have been brought back from Malta.
