1,000kg German Mine Found at Bognor – Controlled Explosion at Sea

A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has undertaken a controlled explosion of a 1,000kg German sea mine that washed ashore at Elmer beach in Bognor Regis.

The 6ft long device was found by an unsuspecting beach goer and its discovery prompted a large EOD operation, involving the creation of a 1-mile air and maritime exclusion zone. The mine was then carefully towed out to sea prior to its spectacular destruction.
