500lb Bomb Found Near Former Practice Range in Oxfordshire

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion after the discovery of a 500lb Medium Capacity (MC) bomb near Abingdon in Oxfordshire.

The bomb was found by a farmer digging in his fields and the EOD team decided to destroy it in situ.  It is suspected that the bomb was dropped as part of a Royal Air Force (RAF) practice run during World War Two (WWII), with a bombing range having been established near to Marcham in 1940.
