An Unexploded Bomb (UXB) found at Kings Hill in Kent has been destroyed in a controlled explosion. The UXB – reported as a 50kg German fragmentation bomb – was discovered on a building site which formerly comprised part of Royal Air Force (RAF) West Malling.
RAF West Malling was one of the UK’s most heavily-bombed airfields during the Battle of Britain when it served as a night-fighter base.
A 200m exclusion zone was put in place by the Police so that an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team could safely deal with the device.
