Another 50kg WWII Bomb Found at King’s Hill in Kent

Another 50kg German Unexploded Bomb (UXB) from World War Two (WWII) has been found at King’s Hill in Kent on the site of the former Royal Air Force (RAF) West Malling.

Police put in place a safety cordon which resulted in the evacuation of a school and several other premises.  An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in and they provided sufficient blast mitigation to allow a controlled explosion to be undertaken the day after the bomb was found.

It follows on from the discovery in June of a 50kg German UXB at the same site.  This was also destroyed in a controlled explosion.

RAF West Malling was heavily-bombed during the Battle of Britain in 1940 and there is a reasonable chance that this won’t be the last UXB find in the area.
