Coastguard Reveals Dozen UXO Finds at Culbin Sands

The local Coastguard has revealed that ’11 or 12′ items of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) have been found in the Culbin Sands area this year.  It comes after a controlled explosion of an unexploded device was carried out by an Explosive Ordnance Dispsosal (EOD) team on the beach last week.

Culbin was used by the military for live firing practice in the build-up to the 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy and shifting sands in the area periodically expose items of UXO to members of the public.

Tree fellers on the now Forestry Commission-owned land have also reported finding shrapnel in the woodland along the coastline.
