An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has undertaken a controlled explosion after partially-buried ordnance was found on RSPB land at Budby in Nottinghamshire.
Parts of the Sherwood Forest region were requisitioned for the construction of army camps and training areas during both WWI and WWII and such finds occur periodically. During the early 20th century, heath and woodland at Budby was used for infantry and tank training. The area continued to be used for ‘dry’ training until as recently as 2015 when it came under the management of the RSPB.
