A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion on a piece of historic ordnance washed up at Irvine beach near Gailes. They were alerted by the Coastguard and, after waiting for low tide to confirm the nature of the item, destroyed it in situ.
