The normal tranquility of Christ Church Meadow in Oxford was briefly shattered after the discovery of a mortar in the River Cherwell. Found by two boys during a fishing excursion, the item was initially thrown back into the river before the young fishermen returned to help Police locate the mortar after a public appeal was launched.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team subsequently arrived and carried out a controlled explosion on the mortar.
