A controlled explosion was carried out on the beach at Old Hunstanton after the discovery of ‘possible ordnance’ by a member of the public.
The Coastguard put in place a security cordon as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to site. Due to the incoming tide, the EOD team had to postpone their search and return the next morning to safely dispose of the item.
The coastline near Hunstanton was used for military practice during World War Two, with firing taking place out into The Wash. As such, Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) is still occasionally washed ashore in the area.
