A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team undertook a controlled detonation after Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) was found about a quarter of a mile from shore at Leigh-on-Sea.
After the Coastguard had been alerted to the discovery of the device near a yacht club, the EOD team rendered it safe. It is the latest in a regular series of similar finds along this section of the Essex coast.
