A controlled explosion has been carried out on an unexploded shell found near a pond at Winkfield Row near Bracknell. Having been found the previous evening, the shell was cordoned off and the area secured. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team then destroyed the device in the morning.
The origin of the item is unknown, although it was not uncommon for surplus or faulty munitions to be discarded in ponds and water courses during wartime, rather than going through more ‘official’ disposal methods.
