Controlled Explosion on Chalkwell Beach

A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team undertook a controlled explosion of 3No. WWII projectiles found below the high water mark on Chalkwell Beach near Southend. One of the devices was disturbed by a bait digger who informed the Coastguard.

The EOD were mobilised but the device had been covered by the tide by the time they arrived. They relocated it the following morning, along with two other munitions, which were then safely detonated.
