An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion on a suspected item of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) found in the garden of a house in Penrhyndeudraeth in Gwynedd, Wales.
The type of device was not specified, although reports indicate that it was taken to a local beach for destruction.
Penrhyndeudraeth was the site of a guncotton factory in the 19th century, which was converted into one of His Majesty’s Explosive Factories (HMEF) during WWI. A National Shell Factory (NSF) also operated at nearby Porthmadog during WWI.
