Twenty homes were evacuated on Byng Road, Walton in Liverpool after a suspected WWI shell was unearthed in a back garden. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team removed the item to nearby Walton and Clubmoor Recreation Ground where it was destroyed in a controlled explosion.
It was one of two WWI shells found in UK gardens over the weekend, the other being excavated by a surprised resident in Oxford.
