Properties were evacuated and roads closed as a large WWII practice bomb was destroyed in a controlled explosion after being found in Henbury Quarry near Corfe Mullen in Dorset.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the RAF were initially unsure whether the bomb was live and requested that Dorset Police enforce a 1km safety cordon and inform any residents within 2km that a controlled explosion was due to take place.
It is understood that the item was a 10,000lb concrete-filled British bomb, possibly a practice bomb associated with the development of the Tallboy.
