Dozens of UXO Found During Gower Removal Exercise

Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) divers have been completing the removal and destruction of dozens of items of UXO found along the Gower Peninsula in South Wales. Large numbers of mainly WWII-era high explosive shells and mortars – in addition to phosphorus-filled devices – have been recovered as part of a coordinated exercise to reduce the number of munitions found in the region.

It has also served as a useful training exercise for EOD personnel.

Any shrapnel and inert items were taken away and melted down, with hazardous UXO detonated in situ on the beach.
