Expended Shell Found at Barrow Shipyard

An expended shell found at BAE’s Barrow shipyard prompted the evacuation of local residences.  After the device was discovered, the Police put in place a precautionary security cordon until an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Catterick could attend.

The EOD team confirmed that the shell posed no danger and removed it for safe disposal.

The BAE works at Barrow (formerly operated by Vickers Armstrong) was a major centre for shipbuilding and munitions manufacture during both WWI and WWII.
