Fishermen Reel in WWI Artillery Shell in West Sussex

Capture-5-300x200A group of magnet fishermen have hauled in a rather explosive catch; a suspected WWI artillery shell, in addition to a WWI-era rifle and various types of ammunition.

Taken from the River Arun in West Sussex, the artillery shell undoubtedly had the greatest potential to cause harm and the group wisely called the Police, who summoned an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to remove the items.

It appears that the cache was dumped in the river by one of the many war relic hunters in the UK.  It follows the discovery earlier this week of a box of grenades in Epping Forest, also thought to have been dumped.
