An eleven-year old boy got a nasty surprise after the ‘fossil’ he found in the local river turned out to be a hand grenade. The child brought the device to a sleepover in Hill of Beath, Fife, having no idea about its potential severity.
After family members called the Police, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was quickly mobilised.
The EOD team removed the grenade to a nearby field where it was destroyed in a controlled explosion.
