A controlled explosion has been carried out after a WWII German incendiary bomb was found on farmland at West Boldon in Northumberland.

Police were called out by a member of the public who had found the device, which were dropped in their hundreds of thousands on the UK during WWII.  An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was subsequently mobilised and they carried out a safe detonation of the device in situ.
