Grenade Found in Elgin Garden is Blown up on Lossiemouth Beach

A WWII-era hand grenade was blown up on East Beach, Lossiemouth by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team after being discovered at a property in Elgin.

The device was uncovered by residents digging in their back garden and assessed by the EOD team who, with a safety cordon around local properties in place, removed it for disposal.

UXO finds along the Moray coast are a regular occurrence, the area having been extensively used for military training during WWII. Finds in local towns and cities are far rarer and the origin of the Elgin grenade is unclear.
