A WWII hand grenade has been destroyed in a controlled explosion after it was removed from the River Thames near Wallingford by a magnet fisherman.

The grenade was reportedly found on the river bank by a member of the public having been snared by an unsuspecting fisherman.  An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived and, after putting in place a security cordon, moved the device into a nearby field for safe detonation.
