Hand Grenade Found During Magnet Fishing Near Wigan

Road closures were put in place in Shevington near Wigan after an eight-year old boy pulled up a hand grenade whilst magnet fishing. Police were called and they brought in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to remove the device.

The stretch of canal in which the grenade was found is adjacent to a former factory site that was engaged in munitions manufacture during WWII.  Several other grenades have been found in the area in recent years.
