Hand Grenade Found in Ipswich Garden

A vicar’s wife got a nasty surprise when uncovering a hand grenade whilst digging in her garden in Ipswich.  An evacuation cordon was put in place around the property at Portman Road prior to the arrival of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

After assessing that the grenade was safe to move, the EOD team transported it to a local park for a controlled explosion.

Hand grenades remain one of the most common (and fortunately recognisable!) items of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) found in the UK.
