Hand Grenade Found in the Canal at Burnley

A controlled explosion was undertaken on farmland near Burnley after the discovery of a hand grenade.  The grenade was taken out of the Leeds & Liverpool canal by a magnet fisherman.

After a security cordon was put in place by the Police, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised.  The EOD team assessed the device as safe to remove to a nearby field, where it was destroyed.
