Hand Grenade Found on the Banks of the River Crouch

A man hunting for treasure along the banks of the River Crouch at Battlesbridge in Essex was stunned to stumble upon a No. 36 Hand Grenade (Mills Bomb). The grenade – a British Army staple throughout both World Wars – was partially submerged by mud.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived and carried out a controlled explosion on the device.
