A suspected WWII hand grenade was found in Weaste Cemetery in Salford by council workers. The device, included in a batch of waste that was inexcusably dumped at the cemetery, resulted in the mobilisation of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
The EOD team removed the device and the cemetery was re-opened, the workers commended for their swift action in the face of a unique, yet avoidable, challenge.
