Historic Munition Dredged up in Dover Strait

A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team undertook a controlled explosion after an historic munition was dredged up in the Dover Strait off Deal.  The device was later identified as 12.5″ Palliser round dating from the 19th century.

Dredging vessels often encounter Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), particularly in the British Channel, and have clear guidelines in place to ensure safety in the event of a suspect find.
