A major access road in Barrow-in-Furness was cordoned off after more than 20No. inert shells were found in a building at BAE Systems. The public were asked to avoid the area as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised.
The EOD team confirmed that the World War Two-era devices were empty and removed them for safe disposal.
Large parts of the BAE works in Barrow were engaged in the manufacture of munitions casings during WWII, when the factory was under the control of Vickers.
