The East Kent Ploughing Match near Nonington was disrupted by the discovery of an unexploded mortar shell in one of the fields. The device – a type of ordnance regularly found in the UK – was destroyed nearby by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
Fortunately only a small safety cordon was required and this was soon lifted to allow the match to continue.
