Latest UXO Finds at Medmerry Beach

The continuing Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) hazard at Medmerry Beach in Selsey, West Sussex, continues after yet another find.  Having been alerted to a UXO find by the Coastguard, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a search of the surrounding beach and found more ordnance.

With the tide coming in, the locations of the UXO were marked and a controlled explosion undertaken the following morning.

This is the latest in a series of UXO finds at the beach, which was used as a bombing and air-to-ground firing range during World War Two.  Coastal erosion and winter storms periodically expose ordnance that has been left in situ for more than 70 years.
