The latest items of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) to be found at the site of a former air-to-ground and bombing range in West Sussex has been destroyed in a controlled explosion.
Medmerry Beach is becoming an alarmingly frequent location for UXO finds, with recent stormy weather exposing ordnance relating to the area’s World War Two history.
A member of the public found the latest item whilst walking the beach and duly alerted the Coastguard. They returned in the light the following day and found additional items to that flagged by the member of the public. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Portsmouth made the familiar jaunt to safely dispose of the items.
