A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has destroyed a live 12-inch projectile found on Ramsey Beach on the Isle of Man. The device was discovered in a rock pool by a member of the public and reported to the Coastguard, who put a safety cordon in place.
The projectile was assessed as safe to move by the EOD team, who relocated it to a nearby section of beach where a controlled explosion took place.
Sections of the Isle of Man coast were used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) for bombing and gunnery practice during World War Two (WWII), meaning that such finds on local beaches are not uncommon.
