Live WWII Shell Found on Moray Beach

A live WWII shell was destroyed in a controlled explosion on Nairn Beach in Moray after being found by the Coastguard. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from HMNB Clyde attended to carry out the safe detonation of the heavily-corroded device.

The area to the northeast of Nairn, known as Culbin Sands, was a live military training area in the build-up to D-Day in 1944. Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) is regularly found in the area as storms dislodge items from the sand in which they have been buried for more than 70 years.
