More Unexploded Shells Found on the Beach at Sandwich Bay

Several unexploded shells have been destroyed in controlled explosions after being found washed up on the beach at Sandwich Bay in Kent. It follows the discovery of more than a dozen shells at the same location in July.

The Coastguard put in place security cordons to allow an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to assess the situation. During a scan of the area surrounding the finds, additional shells were discovered.  They were all made safe through controlled detonations.

Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) is regularly washed up along this stretch of the Kent coastline, which was the location of numerous coastal and Anti-Aircraft (AA) batteries during both World Wars and was also used for military training.
