Police were called after a member of the public found a suspected unexploded mortar on Covehithe beach near Halesworth in Suffolk.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was called to assess the device, which appeared to have washed up from offshore or been dislodged by strong waves.
The EOD team confirmed that the mortar was inert and removed it for safe disposal.
