A mortar bomb has been destroyed in a controlled explosion on a beach near St Ives, Cornwall after being uncovered by a resident excavating his garden in nearby Lelant. In addition to the mortar, two empty ‘pipe bombs’ were also found.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team transferred the devices to the beach for detonation after putting in place a 100m safety cordon around the property. It was suspected that the mortar bomb may still have been live.
