An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has undertaken a series of controlled explosions on a beach at Selsey, West Sussex, after numerous items of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) were recently found.
Mainly comprising 20mm rounds, in addition to some larger shells, the UXO items have been exposed by recent weather events.
The coastline at Selsey was extensively used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) for bombing and air-to-ground firing practice during World War Two (WWII) and such finds are therefore a fairly common occurrence.
