Practice Shell Found at Farnborough Airport

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Aldershot Garrison made the short trip to Farnborough Airport to remove a WWII practice shell found by workmen during ground works.

Farnborough has been an air base since prior to the invention of aircraft. Britain’s first military airship, British Army Dirigible No. 1, was designed and built at Farnborough in 1907 and the first powered flight in the UK took place from the airfield in 1908. It has since been extensively used as test base for a wide variety of aircraft, including those captured from the Luftwaffe during WWII. Aeronautical research continues at Farnborough to this day.

The EOD team removed the item and took it away for safe disposal.
