Second UXB Found at Pembury

11372150-large-300x202A second Unexploded Bomb (UXB) has been found close to the A21 at Pembury in Kent, just a couple of days after a 500lb bomb was destroyed in nearby woodland in a controlled explosion.

The UXBs are thought to be the result of a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt crash in 1944. Thunderbolts typically carried a bomb under each wing and, therefore, if this is the cause of the finds then the discovery of a second device is not surprising.

The MoD has confirmed that the second bomb will also be destroyed in a controlled explosion by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Royal Logistics Corps.
