Several Ordnance Items Found at Lilstock Beach

6No. projectiles thought to date from WWII have been exposed by recent tides on Lilstock beach in Somerset. The Coastguard mobilised an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team which assessed the majority of the items to be safe.  1No. was deemed potentially hazardous and was destroyed in a controlled explosion.

The whole coastline along Bridgwater Bay was extensively used for military practice during WWII, with bombing and artillery ranges located very close to Lilstock.  Many items not recovered at the time are only now being exposed by storms and it is likely that more will follow.
