An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) has removed the remnants of a suspected WWII mortar shell (complete with detonator) from Tolcarne Beach in Newquay. The device was noticed wedged between rocks by a beach walker, presumably having been washed ashore by the tide.
After a lengthy examination, the EOD team confirmed that the item was safe to move and they have now disposed of it.
The find comes just a few days after the discovery of a WWII shell on nearby Fistral Beach.
