‘Smoking’ Device Found on Slapton Sands

A controlled explosion was undertaken by a Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team at Slapton Sands after a ‘smoking’ device was washed ashore by stormy weather.

A major training area in the build-up to D-Day in WWII, Slapton Sands is a frequent location for Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) finds, with buried munitions often released by adverse weather conditions.
