Studland-Poole Ferry Suspended After UXO Find

DSC00132-01.jpeg.gallery-300x200Ferry services between Poole and Studland were suspended after an unexploded projectile was found in the vicinity of the crossing.

The unidentified object was discovered at the roadside near Jerry’s Point and is thought to have been dumped in a tree there. As the Dorset Police spokesperson commented, such finds “are not an uncommon occurrence in the area”. Many UXO items are washed up on local beaches or imported in aggregate dredged from offshore.  It is possible that some such items discovered are moved by unsuspecting members of the public before being discarded on realising their true nature.

After a 4-hour delay the projectile was removed by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
