Histon Road in Cambridge was closed in both directions after the discovery of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) during earthworks.
Police secured the scene before an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team arrived to remove the device, suspected to be a solid shot anti-tank round used for training.
The origin of the device along a busy road with no obvious military history is unclear.
