Part of Brighton Beach was closed and people evacuated after the discovery of a suspected unexploded mortar shell. Police secured the area and encouraged the dispersal of beach goers whilst an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised to the scene.
The item – discovered by a metal detectorist – was later confirmed by Police to have ‘washed away with the tide’ and, in liaison with the EOD team, the security cordon was lifted.
