A Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team carried out a controlled explosion after a suspected ‘unexploded bomb’ was found by forestry staff on a hillside overlooking Largs in North Ayrshire.
Whilst the exact nature of the device is unknown, it was described as a ‘large metal cylindrical object’, raising the prospects that it may have been an air-dropped bomb.
The EOD team safely detonated the device, the tremors from which could be felt more than half-a-mile away.
