Swindon Magnet Fishers Find WWII Shell in Local Canal

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was mobilised to a house in Swindon after residents realised that an item they had discovered whilst magnet fishing in a local canal was a WWII shell.

Having found the mud-caked item more than a week before, the potential severity of the discovery only became evident to the residents after they had soaked it in vinegar.

The EOD team identified the device as an 8lb armour-piercing solid shot round and removed it for safe disposal.
